The Reds have re-signed former striker Paul Hayes from Preston North End on a two-month emergency loan deal.
The deal allows the Reds own striker Iain Hume to stay with Preston for the remainder of his three-month loan deal.
Hayes joined Barnsley in 2005 from Scunthorpe and played an integral role in the Reds promotion to the Championship, scoring 10 goals including one in the playoff semi final at Huddersfield and the opening goal at the Millennium Stadium in the final, when Barnsley defeated Swansea on penalties.
He fell down the pecking order when Simon Davey took charge and the arrival of Hungarian strike duo Istvan Ferenczi and Peter Rajczi and after a loan spell at Huddersfield, he re-joined Scunthorpe. He made another 150 appearances for the Iron, netting 40 times.
He signed for Preston in the summer and has made 12 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 3 goals.
