Barnsley manager Keith Hill has hinted he may be forced to dip into the loan market before Saturday’s home clash with Nottingham Forest.
Hill is currently dealing with a striker crisis as the only one of his three first-team frontman to score in the league this season- Craig Davies- is sidelined for up to a month with a hamstring injury. Fellow forwards Marlon Harewood and Chris Dagnall have failed to find the net in 24 combined appearances, whilst 18 year old Danny Rose- who came on as a subsititute in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace for his sixth substitute apperance for the club, and 19 year old Jordan Clark who has just five appearances are not yet ready to step up to lead the line.
Summer signing Mido is, according to Hill “nowhere near matchfit” despite playing 70 minutes, and scoring a penalty for the Under 21 Development Squad on Monday.
The Reds have scored more than once in just one league game this season- the 5-0 victory at Birmingham, and Davies scored four of those. They have managed just 14 goals in their 12 league games- only three teams have netted less, and Hill admits his squad needs more firepower.
He said:
I’ve got to look at the possibility of recruiting, but it is difficult. You have to get in the right sort of quality, the right sort of player that fits into our DNA and the way that we play our football.”
