Reds manager Keith Hill has today revealed he tried to sign Bristol Rovers winger Mustapha Carayol on deadline day.
The 22-year-old was Hill's attempt to replace top scorer Ricardo Vaz Te after he left for West Ham after scoring 12 goals for the Reds.
Carayol has previously played at MK Dons, Torquay United, Crawley and Lincoln, who he left for Bristol Rovers in June last year.
Hill told the Barnsley Chronicle:
"He was someone that we looked at as a replacement for Ricardo but obviously it never happened,"
"He is someone I admire. He is spontaneous and has a predatory instinct."
