Barnsley manager Keith Hill has told the Sheffield Star that he would like to keep Manchester United loanee Danny Drinkwater until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old's loan expires on January 2nd but Hill is keen to extend the deal of the midfielder, who has made 12 appearances for the Reds since joining in August, scoring once.
Hill said:
“We want to extend his deal, Danny’s been a good loan signing,” Hill told The Star.
“His compatibility with the squad has been great to see, he’s come here without any Premier League arrogance.
“We’re really happy with the way he’s developing and contributing. He’s teamed up well with Butts [Jacob Butterfield] and Perks [David Perkins] in midfield.
“The style of football we play at Barnsley has suited Danny’s game, it’s been a good partnership. I would advise him to stay at Barnsley and complete a full season in the Championship, that would do him the world of good.
“He’s got the ability to play at a higher level, but you need experience before you take that next step. Before Danny came here I think he’d only played 10 games in the Championship.”
Drinkwater has previously had spells on loan with Huddersfield, Watford and Cardiff City.
