Tykes manager Glyn Hodges is expected to hold talks with owner Peter Doyle this week to see if he has a future at Oakwell.
Hodges said: "We've not yet discussed it. We've been in on-going talks with Mr Doyle about other things - players' contracts, targets and where we are going from here - and a lot depended on what division we ended up in.
"But by the end of the week I hope it's sorted. I don't want it to drag on. It's been a hell of a season, both on and off the field. It has been difficult.
"But now we're safe. It's a massive relief. Colin Walker has helped me no end and I hope we've both done enough to be kept on - but that depends on Mr Doyle."
Talks with the Reds out-of-contract players will also be taking place - probably after the final game of the season at Wigan.
