The summer-long transfer saga involving Barnsley defender Mason Holgate looks to be coming to a conclusion, with the youngster set to join Everton.
The 18-year-old has undergone a medical with the Premier League club, who snared the then 18-year-old John Stones from the Reds two-and-a-half years ago.
Widespread reports suggest the Reds will receive £1million up front for Holgate, who made 22 appearances in his breakthrough campaign, with a further £1m in add-ons.
There has been significant interest in the Doncaster born full-back this summer, with Manchester United having offered him a trial. Newcastle United and Bournemouth have also been linked with moves.
But this move could open the door for Stones to join Chelsea, who have had two bids knocked back by Everton this summer, of £20m and £26m. They are expected to go back with a third offer, and whatever Stones does sell for, the Reds will be due a sell on fee installed into the deal that took him to Goodison Park in January 2013.
But for now, it looks like the Toffees are set to cherry pick another of Barnsley's rising stars.
