Hornets Stung!

Watford have become the sixth Championship side this season to be looking for a new manager after Gianfranco Zola quit just seven months after leading them to the Championship Play-Off Final.

The 47 year old former Napoli and Chelsea striker took over the Hertfordshire outfit in the summer of 2012 and took the Hornets to within two points of automatic promotion in his first season in charge.

Watford then sealed a dramatic last second Play-Off victory over Leicester before losing to Crystal Palace in the final.

Unfortunately things have not worked out so well in 2013-2014, and Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday was the club’s fifth successive home defeat to leave them 13th, eight points off the top six.

Zola said:

"I feel that it's in the best interests of the team that somebody new is given the chance to bring the success we have hoped for,"

"It is for a variety of reasons, and not just over one matter or one moment, that I feel this is the right decision for me, in the best interests of the club."
