Barnsley Football Club have taken the surprising option of naming the fans Player of the Year three days before the final home game of the season.
Argentine midfielder Hugo Colace has beaten competition from Daniel Bogdanovic, last year’s winner Bobby Hassell and Nathan Doyle to win the Boylin Trophy, which was presented to him at the Player of the Year awards dinner last night. Usually the fans choice is revealed prior to the final home game of the season. Colace also scooped the Players Player of the Year award too and told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"I enjoy getting goals. I am a midfielder but I have to get into the box. It has been great to get seven this season so far.
"I have been told to just keep pushing into the box. I owe it all to Mark Robins".
It is a surprising choice after, in my opinion; a poor season from Colace who has often looked lost in the centre of midfield but to his credit has bagged seven goals this season- the best total of his career.
