Barnsley have today made the third most expensive signing in the club's history with the £1.2m acquisition of Leicester City striker Iain Hume!
Hume who burst onto the scene as a 16 year old at Tranmere becomes Simon Davey's first signing of the close season and also the club's biggest signing since the arrivals of Georgi Hristov and Ashley Ward a decade ago!
Hume who is now 24 scored 34 goals in 122 appearances for Leicester, including 11 last season (one of which earned the Foxes a 1-0 win at Oakwell in April) They were not enough to keep Leicester in the Championship however and their relegation has enabled Davey to swoop!
According to the club, The Reds beat off competition from Wolves, Sheffield United and Preston North End amongst other for the Canadian international and Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"We have been tracking Iain all summer and I have been an admirer of him since his days at Tranmere. Iain is a big talent who, at the age of 24, is just starting to come into his prime.
"He is an ambitious player who shares our drive and ambition for success here at Barnsley FC. The staff are excited about having the chance to work with Iain and develop him even further. We know that he will have a big impact at Oakwell and sure he will become a fans favourite".
Hume has signed a three year contract at Oakwell to take him until 2011!!!
