Paul Ince has become the eighth Championship manager to lose his job in 2013-2014.
The 46-year-old former England international midfielder was fired by Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston following the club’s 2-0 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday, the Seasiders ninth reverse in 10 matches.
Ince had been in charge at Bloomfield Road since the 18th February last year and had led the club to a fine start to the season, winning six of their first seven league matches.
They have managed just three victories from the following 20 games in all competitions, and last weekend’s reverse at Oakwell was their fifth successive defeat, leaving the club 14th in the table.
Ince spent four hours in talks with the Blackpool hierarchy yesterday and it was believed he had clung on to his job but the Lancashire outfit has now confirmed the ex Liverpool, Inter Milan and Manchester United player has been relieved of his duties. It is expected that club captain Barry Ferguson will take temporary charge and throws into fresh doubt the future of star midfielder, and Ince’s son, Tom Ince, who has been linked with moves to both the Premier League and France.
Barnsley have managed only three home league wins in 2013-2014 and now Paul Ince has become the SECOND manager to lose his job immediately following defeat at Oakwell. Middlesbrough fired Tony Mowbray within days of a 3-2 defeat at Barnsley back in October. It means only Mark Robins, and current Reds boss Danny Wilson have been able to lose at Oakwell this season and still keep their job.
