George Maris has become the first player to commit his future to Barnsley by signing a new one-year contract at Oakwell.
The 19 year old who has risen through the ranks with The Reds made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Bradford in April and then was handed his first start in the final day 5-0 romp over Rochdale.
Maris also had a loan spell at Conference Premier side Nuneaton this season and despite still waiting for his first professional goal he was one of two out of contract players to be offered new terms by head coach Lee Johnson, the other being Welsh centre half Lewin Nyatanga who is still mulling over the deal.
