Today's Daily Mirror has reported that the Reds are set to sign Ivory Coast's international defender Steve Gohouri.
The 28-year-old has won two caps for his country, and scored three goals from centre back. He has played for PSG, Yverdon Sport, Bologa, FC Vaduz, Young Boys of Berne and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Overall, in 217 league appearances all over Europe, Gohouri has scored 36 goals from centre-back.
The Mirror report reads:
Barnsley boss Mark Robins is set to win the race for Ivory Coast international defender Steve Gohouri after using the personal touch.
Robins flew to Germany to speak to the Borussia Monchengladbach centre-half and took a brochure on the Oakwell club to sell the idea to the 28-year-old.
Gohouri, who still has an outside chance of making his country’s World Cup squad, was impressed by Robins’ approach and is ready to sign for the Championship side in the next few days. He’ll join the Tykes on a free transfer.
