Jason Scotland has today sealed a free transfer move to…. Well Scotland!
The 34 year old former Trinidad & Tobago international made a flying start to his Oakwell career when he arrived 12 months ago, scoring on each of his first three appearances, all wins with two of them (Blackpool and Middlesbrough) his strikes turned them from draws into vital wins.
The former Swansea and Ipswich man then headed in the second goal in the final day 2-2 draw with Huddersfield which secured Barnsley’s Championship survival.
These exploits earnt Scotland a new one-year deal in the summer however 2013-2014 has proved more a struggle with him scoring just twice in 23 appearances.
And now Scotland has followed Scott Wiseman, Jim McNulty, David Perkins and Chris Dagnall out of the club this month by agreeing a deal with Scottish Championship side Hamilton until June.
Scotland had been talking to a number of clubs north of the border including Dundee, but he has opted for the Accies who sit second in the table, one point behind the aforementioned Dundee.
Barnsley manager Danny Wilson is now set to step up his search for a new striker as this move leaves the club with only Chris O'Grady and the injured Marcus Pedersen as their recognised strikers.
