Rotherham manager Steve Evans has dismissed claims he is interested in signing winger Jim O’Brien on a free transfer this summer.
The 26-year-old Irishman was one of three players offered new contracts at Oakwell following relegation to League One but as of yet none of the trio- O’Brien along with Tomasz Cywka ands Stephen Dawson- have committed with the latter two intimating that they will decline and seek pastures new.
Recent reports have suggested that O’Brien who has netted eight goals in 133 appearances for Barnsley since joining from Motherwell in 2010 has until the end of the week to decide whether he wants to extend his Oakwell career into a fifth season.
Meanwhile Rotherham, who have just secured back to back promotions and will be playing Championship football in 2014-2015 for the first time in 10 years have been strongly linked with signing the winger, with the Sheffield Star even going so far as to “exclusively reveal” that the Millers had made enquires.
However Millers boss Evans dismissed this when talking to BBC Radio Sheffield saying:
“We’ve had no interest in Jim O’Brien of Barnsley, he’s a good player but he’s not somebody who is on or has ever been on our radar. Perhaps that’s somebody getting wires crossed.”
Barnsley have yet to make any signings of their own thus far but have been strongly linked with defender Stephen Craniey and striker Lee Gregory.
