Bristol City and Gary Johnson have parted company by mututal consent, five days before Barnsley head to Ashton Gate next Tuesday night.
Johnson was appointed manager in September 2005 and led City to promotion from League One in 2006-2007. He nearly secured a double promotion after the Robins reached the Championship Play-Off Final the following year but were defeated 1-0 by Hull City at Wembley.
City secured a top ten finish in the league last season but 2009-2010 has been poor and Johnson leaves City in 15th position on a run of two wins in 13. During that time they have suffered heavy home defeats- 6-0 to Cardiff and 5-2 to Doncaster, with the final straw being Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat at relegation haunted Plymouth.
This managerial change means ex Barnsley winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce is set to play under his FOURTH manager this season. Campbell-Ryce started the season under Simon Davey at Oakwell, playing seven games, then he featured in 10 games under Mark Robins, before signing for Bristol in Janaury.
