Pre-season isn't even three weeks old, and Barnsley boss Lee Johnson is already being linked with a move for his former captain, Oldham's Liam Kelly.
The 25-year-old is a Scottish international midfielder, who played with Johnson at Kilmarnock, making 100 appearances before earning a move to Bristol City.
He teamed up with Johnson again at Oldham last summer, signing a three-year deal, which saw ex-Reds loanee Korey Smith join the Robins. He was made club captain and played 34 games for the Latics in the 2014/15 campaign.
“It takes a lot of hard work to sign a player – and we’re putting in that hard work,” said Johnson.
“We’ve got a list of 10 players for every position in the team, but there are some positions which we’re prioritising."
Meanwhile, former Reds loanee Jabo Ibehre has been released by Colchester United. The 32-year-old striker spent the last couple of months on loan at Oakwell, becoming a bit of a cult hero and netting two important goals against Preston and Bristol City.
