Barnsley have made their fifth signing of the January transfer window and their second on a permanent basis with the capture of Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Josh Scowen.
The 21 year old has been a key player in Gareth Ainsworth side, helping them surge to the top of the League Two table this season.
Saturday’s 1-0 victory over York was Scowen’s 100th appearance for a club he signed professional terms with in 2011 and he was featured on the cover of the club’s matchday programme to celebrate this fact.
What nobody inside Adams Park realised that day was this was to be his farewell appearance for his first club and he has signed a two and a half year deal at Oakwell today after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
Scowen is certainly a ferocious competitior as he has been booked a staggering 32 times in the last two and a half seasons.
He will wear the number seven shirt and manager Danny Wilson told the club’s official website:
"We've identified what we feel is one of the best players in the division. He's highly regarded by his team-mates and those he's played against this season.
"We're looking forward to working with him. He gives us tenacity and adds strength to the team. Looking at him, he's got the heart of a lion - that's what we need and what we want."
