Midfielder Richard Kell has returned to Oakwell after his spell with Neil Redfearns Scarborough was cut short.
Kell made just two starts for the Conference strugglers and Reds boss Andy Ritchie told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"Richard is back with us and he will not finish his loan at Boro. It just has not worked out for him there mainly because Scarborough are in a relegation dogfight and he was only there to build up his match fitness.
"He had a chat with Neil Redfearn last week and they decided that the loan was not really fulfilling what either wanted at the moment. We want Richard to come through matches and build up his fitness so he will play in our reserves. We may be able to fix him up with another loan before the deadline".
Meanwhile Ritchie's Barnsley predecessor Paul Hart has joined Rushden & Diamonds as assistant to current boss Barry Hunter.
Rushden are currently bottom of the entire Football League
