Lewin Nyatanga has made a sensational return to Oakwell on a free transfer from relegated Bristol City.
The 24-year-old defender was a huge hit in three loan spells at Barnsley from Derby County between 2007 and 2008, scoring once in 51 appearances.
The Welsh international was surprisingly allowed to leave Pride Park in the summer of 2009 and there were rumours Barnsley were in the hunt for him but he opted to join Bristol City.
Unfortunately the Burton born 6ft 2in centre half suffered an unhappy time at Ashton Gate, culminating in being part of the side relegated to League One in May.
He opted to leave the South West this month when his contract expired and now he has moved back up to Yorkshire, signing a two-year contract with The Reds.
Nyatanga told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I'm very impressed with how everything has progressed here."
"The manager is very passionate and I just felt like it was the right decision to come back here.
"They ended last season brilliantly and that bodes well for this season. If we carry that form forward then anything is possible."
