Leyton Orient v Barnsley

Team News

Barnsley, now looking for a seventh successive league win for the first time in 60 years are unlikely to make changes for the trip to East London.

Declan John was handed his debut over George Smith at Oldham and despite The Reds conceding a goal for the first time in six matches (Smith had started all the previous five) he is expected to keep his place.

Sam Winnall is pushing for a start after making three appearances from the bench and would be a certain starter if Lee Johnson opts for two up top.

Interesting Stats:

Barnsley travel to Brisbane Road for the first time in 33 years.

The Reds won 3-1 on their last visit, in a Second Division encounter in January 1982, and that is their only victory there in the last nine trips, dating back to 1926.

In total Barnsley have emerged victorious from this part of East London just three times from 27 trips, in 1982, 1926 and 1922.

Barnsley’s 2-0 home win over the O’s in December however means they now lead the overall head to head by 23 wins to 22.

Orient have failed to score in their past two trips to Oakwell but have bagged 53 in the 27 Brisbane Road meetings, only failing to net on four occasions.

In the most recent clashes the team that wins the first meeting has tended to go on and do the double. This has happened in two of the last three seasons they have clashed with the other one seeing two draws. So fingers crossed this continues.

Last season’s League One Play-Off Finalists Leyton Orient reside two points adrift of safety this time around but have given their survival hopes a major shot in the arm with recent results.

The O’s who have ex red Chris Dagnall in their ranks have won four of their past seven matches with Dagnall himself netting in two of them.

Orient have one of the worst home records in the Football League, they have lost 11 times at Brisbane Road this season which is the highest number of home defeats across all three SkyBet divisions whilst their total of four home wins is the joint lowest.

Two of those victories however have come in their last three home games, both by a 3-0 scoreline.

Four of Orient’s last five defeats have come at home though.

Before Fabio Liverani arrived as manager in December, Orient had won just four of 19 matches this season but since the Italian took over he has masterminded them to six wins from 16 games.

If Barnsley can grab a goal tomorrow (something they have managed to do in each of their last eight games) they should be confident of leaving East London with something. Each of Orient’s last three wins have been accompanied by clean sheets and each of the last three they have conceded in they have lost.

Barnsley come up against an old nemesis tomorrow in the shape of Darius Henderson. The 33-year-old striker has bagged six goals in his last eight appearances against The Reds including a hat trick whilst with Millwall.
