Reds boss Simon Davey has decided to allow three of his young starlets to leave Oakwell on a temporary basis in order to get first team football.
20 year old goal-keeper Kyle Letheren, who finds himself third in the pecking order now Heinz Muller has recovered from injury, 18 year old midfielder Jacob Butterfield who received the captain's armband on the final day of last season and played in the FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley and 21 year old defender Robert Atkinson who was Man of the Match for the Reserves on Tuesday night have all been made available for loan.
The experience will be nothing new for Atkinson, who during his time at Barnsley has had loan spells at Scarborough, Halifax, Rochdale and last season Grimsby and even played for the Mariners in the Johnstone Paint Trophy Final at Wembley in March but it will be the first time either Butterfield or Letheren have ventured from the club since signing a contract.
Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"We are looking at moving Jacob, Kyle and Robert out on loan and will be circulating their names today. We will see what happens but we want to get them some experience and some games.
"They are kicking their heels a bit here with a number of senior players we have brought to the Club in front of them. They are finding it a little hard to push through so we want to get them some experience playing games and will be looking to move them out for a short while".
Letheren has made one substitute appearance for Barnsley since signing from Swansea in 2006.
Butterfield has made one start and four substitute appearances after progressing through the ranks and making his debut in August 2007.
Atkinson has made eight starts and two substitute appearances since progressing through the ranks and making his debut in March 2004.
