Reds boss Gudjon Thordarson is looking for a new midfielder after an injury to Chris Lumsdon.
Lumsdon will be out for six weeks after damaging knee ligaments against Hartlepool on Saturday.
Thordarson said "I was going to substitute him before he got sent off because he was struggling.
"I'll now have to look at bringing in a replacement because we were down to the bare bones on Saturday.
There are not many options, but I have a couple of players in mind."
The club will still appeal against Lumsdon's red card for supposedly using his elbow on Chris Shuker after the Hartlepool striker offered to support their case.
"Shuker said he will support us if we appeal because he said Chris did not use his elbow on purpose - but we're going to be without him anyway now."
