It has been a bad weekend for Championship managers after Owen Coyle became the third to be axed in the space of just 72 hours.
Following the sacking of David Flitcroft at Oakwell on Saturday evening and Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday yesterday, Coyle was ditched by Wigan late last night following a 3-1 home defeat to Derby.
The 47-year-old former Burnley and Bolton boss was only appointed in the summer following Roberto Martinez’s departure to Everton and his reign started with a fine 4-0 win at Barnsley on the season’s opening day.
However he has won just five more league matches and the reverse to the Rams yesterday was their third in a row in all competitions, leaving them 14th in the table, six points off the play-offs.
