Barnsley’s hunt for a new manager took another turn for the worse after they were snubbed on their number one target for the second time in two days.
After Keith Hill decided to stay with Rochdale on Tuesday, Leyton Orient have tonight denied the Reds to speak to Russell Slade.
The 50 year old former Scarborough and Grimsby boss became Barnsley’s main target after they were snubbed by Hill, and they were encouraged by Orient seventh’s place finish in League One.
However Orient chairman Barry Hearn has confirmed that Slade will be staying at Brisbane Road and is signing a new contract.
Hearn told Orient’s official website:
"Barnsley asked us for permission to speak to Russ but we have declined them.
"Russ is vitally important to this football club and after the season we have just had we sat down last week and shook hands on a new contract for him.
"We have a job to do here next season and we want Russ at the helm so our response to Barnsley was that they would need to look elsewhere for their next manager."
