Barnsley have today finally secured the signing of Fulham striker Marcello Trotta on loan until the 5th January 2015.
The 22-year-old Italian was due to arrive on a short-term move to Oakwell last month but opted against dropping to League One after hearing of Championship interest.
However a move to another second tier club has failed to materialise and the former Napoli and Manchester City trainee has decided to join up with Danny Wilson’s side and was on the bench for today’s South Yorkshire derby at Sheffield United.
Trotta who has represented his country at every level from Under 16s to under 21s made his Fulham debut in a 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Everton in January 2012, a year after joining the Craven Cottage outfit.
He has made just two further appearances for his parent side though, a 3-0 Premier League victory at Bolton in April and a 1-0 League Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in August, both 2012.
Since then Trotta has gone out on loan to Wycombe, Watford and Brentford and he enjoyed a pretty prolific spell in League One with the Bees last season scoring 13 times in 40 games to help them to automatic promotion.
