Stephen McPhail spoke to the official Barnsley FC website after signing today:
He said: “I came here and spoke to Paul Hart and the chairman but I just felt comfortable here from the moment I walked in. The players have welcomed me here and it is a pleasure to play for Paul wherever he is.
McPhail speaks!
“It is a massive decision for me to make and I know that it is going to be a big challenge for me especially because I want to get out the Second Division this year. I hope we can do that.
“We had the option of speaking to a number of clubs in the First Division but my mind was made us as soon as we came here on Wednesday. I want to be a Barnsley player.
“Paul’s influence on my career has been massive. It is because of him that I am here at Barnsley and I want to play for him. I have worked with him before and I know just how good he is.
“He is so knowledgeable about the game and gets players excited about football. His enthusiasm and knowledge would make anybody want to play for him.
“I am here to help get this club out of this division next season. There is a good bunch of players and everybody looks confident that we can win promotion.
“Moving to Barnsley will affect my international career because I am playing a league below where I could have been but I am not planning on being in this division for long. Hopefully we will get out of this division next season and the club can kick start on”.
