Barnsley have confirmed that midfielder Jacob Mellis has been offered a new contract at Oakwell.
The 23 year old had a stop start 2013-2014 season where he produced indifferent form and was actually left out of the final two matches.
When The Reds published their “retained” list” Mellis was not included with the club stating they would speak to him and his agent before deciding on what action they wanted to take.
That action has now been confirmed by Chief Executive Ben Mansford as being a new contract.
He told BBC Radio Sheffield:
“We would like Jacob to remain with the club. He has fantastic ability. We will therefore be making an offer to him and the decision will then lie with him, his family and his advisors.”
“In the event of Mellis deciding to leave Oakwell, the club would be entitled to compensation because he is under the age of 24.”
