Sodje, 20, hit 22 goals in two seasons for York and has earned rave reviews from Reds manager Simon Davey. He told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"As part of the restructuring of the playing side we will have a development squad for players like Reuben (Noble-Lazarus), Jamil (Adam) and Jordan (Hibbert) and Onome will be part of that.
"Onome is one for the future and a player we are looking forward to working with having here at Oakwell. He is lightening quick with an eye for goal, a lot of potential and someone we feel can improve and develop here at Oakwell"

Sodje was understandably delighted at the move and also told the Club's website:
"I am delighted. I have been waiting a long time through the summer for this and I have finally got my chance. I am very excited.
"It has really come out of the blue. I have the opportunity to come here and I am delighted. You only have to look around the facilities and the stadium to see what it means to me. It is totally different to York City and this it the Championship. I am just so excited really and I am trying to contain myself!
"It is a massive club and there is everything here that a young player would need to develop. I am just excited to be here and to be given the chance to develop and try to do something in the game".
