………..It has been widely reported in recent weeks that Barnsley were chasing Colchester United’s 14 goal top scorer George Moncur and had had an initial £400,000 bid rejected.
Over the last week however both Barnsley and Peterborough United had improved £500,000 offers accepted and today the 22 year old chose the Championship bound Reds and will join up with the club for the start of pre-season. The length of the contract has not been revealed but Peterborough’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony hinted that Barnsley had offered a more attractive package by tweeting “I did my best on that one but couldn't compete with Champ football/money. Some we win, some we lose. Onwards!”
Moncur who scored 23 goals in 97 games for the U’s netted in both games against Barnsley in 2015-2016.
This news followed hot on the heels of Aidy White agreeing a new one year contract at the club yesterday. The 24 year old full back originally arrived at Oakwell in November and made 19 appearances. He was one of three out of contract players offered a new contract this summer and has penned a deal until the 30th June 2017.
