News From T'Well!!!

Young goalkeeper Scott Flinders probably thinks life can’t get any better.

After spending a week training with Premiership Champions Chelsea (where he kept a clean sheet in a behind closed doors game) he has now been selected by Peter Taylor for the Football League side that will play an Italian team on February 21st at 7:45pm.

The game is being played at Hull City’s KC stadium where Flinders mistake gifted Hull a goal against The Reds last season but Hull boss Taylor, also boss of the Football League Side, has selected Flinders in his 33 man squad. Taylor also picked Flinders for the England U20 squad last season.

Meanwhile on the transfer front, boss Andy Ritchie has again moved to dismiss rumours linking Ipswich Town midfielder Kevin Horlock with a move to Oakwell.

It was reported in the Barnsley Chronicle that Ritchie had been left "frustrated" in his bid to sign Horlock but Ritchie told www.barnsleyfc.co.UK:

"I did speak to Joe Royle about Horlock last week but it was merely an enquiry and nothing else. That is as far as it went".

There will be one midfielder going through the Oakwell door this week though as Richard Kell is now set to join Neil Redferns Conference strugglers Scarborough on loan as he attempts to build up fitness after his broken leg.

Kell is expected to make his Seadogs debut against Altrincham on Saturday.

Worrying team news for the Reds concerning Saturday’s visit of Bristol City.

Matt Carbon, who was outstanding against Forest, picked up his 5th booking of the season at the City Ground and will miss out, as will his defensive colleague Neil Austin who is also suspended. With Dale Tonge injured and Robbie Williams struggling for form, boss Andy Ritchie has a dilemma at the back.

There is also a worry of the fitness of Stephen McPhail. McPhail was also excellent against Forest but limped out of the action after tweaking his medial ligament due to a challenge from Gary Holt.

Ritchie told www.barnsleyfc.co.UK:

"We will have to wait and see with Stephen at the moment.

"He tweaked his medial ligament on Friday night and it is the same knee that was injured at the turn of the year so we will have to be careful".
