Barnsley Football Club have struck up a partnership with Michigan side Flint Steelers which could see some top American youngsters coming to Oakwell.

New Academy manager Simon Davey was in the States this week setting up the deal.

Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"I went out to Michigan and set up what could be a very mutually beneficial association with Flint Steelers. While I was over there I took five sessions for coaches, parents and their elite youngsters mirroring three-days in the Barnsley Academy.

"We will send members of staff over to the United States next year to run soccer camps for elite youngsters aged between eleven and 18 from all over the Michigan area. The year after we will have a select group of youngsters come over to spend time in the Academy.

"It is a good move for the club and spreads the name and reputation of Barnsley FC throughout Michigan. We are branching out and looking for the best players from throughout the United Kingdom and United States".

So maybe we could unearth the next Freddy Adu....

Meanwhile strong reports down on the South Coast are saying The Reds have bid £250,000 for Southampton's Kenwyne Jones.

Jones enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in 2004-2005 where he scored 7 goals in 7 games!

21 year old Jones who was in the Trinidad & Tobago squad at the World Cup and featured against England and Paraguay has scored 5 goals in 41 games for Southampton since joining in 2004.

He also spent three months on loan at Stoke in 2005 where he scored 3 goals in 13 appearances.
