Barnsley have boosted their contingent of goalkeepers to three ahead of the new season with the signing of Nick Townsend on a youth loan.
Following the departure of Ross Turnbull to Leeds this summer, The Reds were left with Adam Davies, who is set to start the season opener at Chesterfield this weekend, and Christian Dibble, who has yet to appear for the club, as the first team keepers.
Now 20-year-old Townsend is set to provide backup for Davies after arriving from Birmingham until the 1st November.
Although yet to appear for the Midlands outfits first team, Townsend has just signed a new two year contract at St Andrews Stadium and spent the majority of the last two seasons at Lincoln where he made 31 appearances.
Townsend told the club’s official website:
"I am really pleased to join the Club for what is sure to be an exciting season ahead," “Since I heard of the interest, I’ve tracked the players coming into the Club and I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the players recruited.
"I know the goalkeeper Coach, John Vaughan, and after speaking with Lee Johnson, I can't wait to get cracking. This is a remarkable opportunity for me to progress at a big Club in a very competitive league.”
