Barnsley go into this game with Derby unbeaten in their last four meetings home and away with the Rams, and with just one defeat in the last six tussles at Oakwell.
Last season, Mark Robins first win in charge of the Reds- and indeed the club’s first win of the campaign came against the Rams, at Pride Park in September. Rob Hulse looked like handing Barnsley their sixth defeat from the first seven matches when he put Derby in front, but Barnsley fought back superbly as Adam Hammill, Andy Gray and Anderson De Silva put them 3-1 up before Shaun Barker headed a consolation in the eight minutes of injury time brought about due to a nasty injury to Emil Hallfredsson.

Derby were also Barnsley’s first win the previous season as well. After starting the season with four straight defeats in all competitions, The Reds defeated a Derby side who at the time were on their own horrible run of 36 games without a win, 2-0 at Oakwell courtesy of strikes from Iain Hume and Stephen Foster.

In-between those two victories the two sides have played out two goal-less draws, at Pride Mark in March 2009 and at Oakwell last April.
Derby’s last victories over Barnsley came in their promotion season of 2006-2007. They defeated The Reds 2-1 at Pride Park in November 2006, when they turned around a rare goal from Bobby Hassell to secure the points thanks to a brace from Giles Barnes. Then in March 2007, The Rams were backed by 7,400 fans at Oakwell, winning 2-1 with goals from David Jones and Matt Oakley. Sam Togwell grabbed a consolation in the final minute.
That victory is Derby’s only one at Oakwell since December 1993 when Paul Kitson earned then a 1-0 win. The Rams in total have won just nine of their 26 trips to this part of South Yorkshire.

It’s been a tough couple of years for the loyal Derby County supporters. The Rams fans often sell out their 33,597 capacity Pride Park home but have had very little to cheer. In 2007-2008 they gained the unwanted record of the Premier League’s lowest ever points tally- just 11, and in their two years back in the Championship they have finished in lowly 18th and 14th positions, with early indications showing this season may not be much better. Nigel Clough’s side set off in the right way, with a 2-1 win at Leeds on the opening weekend, but they haven’t won since losing five of the next six in all competitions to sit just inside the relegation places. The Rams are also one of three sides in the Championship yet to keep a clean sheet and they have conceded five times in the final 15 minutes of matches this season- the most in the division.
Barnsley on the other hand are riding on the crest of a wave, having made their best start to a league campaign in seven years. It is their best start to a campaign at this level since 1996-1997 when The Reds won promotion to the Premier League! The Reds have also been amongst the goals in the opening two months. Their total of 12 is only bettered by league leaders Queens Park Rangers who have hit 17. Continuing with the positive stats, Barnsley have won three out of three at home for the first time since the 2000-2001 season, and if they make it four out of four, it will equal the start from that year when, at Oakwell they started with victories over Norwich, West Brom, QPR and Grimsby and this is the first time The Reds have had a positive goal difference since October 2007.
