Interesting Stats:
Barnsley and Huddersfield meet tomorrow for the first time since one of the greatest nights in Barnsley Football Club history. Back in May 2006, The Reds turned around a 1-0 first leg deficit, winning 3-1 at the Galpharm in the League One Play-Off Semi-Finals and advanced to the Final where they defeated Swansea to win promotion to the Championship.
It has taken Huddersfield another six years to join the Reds, back in the second tier of English football for the first time in 11 years. The Terriers have made a bright start too, winning seven of their opening 15 games to sit in seventh position, with only goal difference keeping them out of a play-off spot.
Simon Grayson’s men have though faltered slightly in recent weeks and have won just one of their last four matches.
They have won three matches on the road this season- only the division’s current top two- Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough have won more away from home.
Barnsley on the other hand are sliding alarmingly down the table with Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Derby their fifth defeat in seven matches, leaving them just one place and three points outside the relegation zone.
The Reds have failed to win any of their last four matches at Oakwell, their longest winless run at home since 2004, when they went five without victory.
Huddersfield have only won nine of 33 visits to Oakwell, but have lost just one of their last four visits. Their last victory here was way back in 2003, when they won 1-0, but were still relegated to the fourth tier of English football at the end of the season.
Defeat for The Reds tomorrow would be their fourth in a row.
