Barnsley Football Club and striker Garry O’Connor have decided to part company, bringing to an end an inconsistent spell at the club for the 27 year old former Scotland international.
O’Connor was greeted with great fanfare when he initially arrived on loan from Birmingham in September and he netted on his debut- the fine 5-2 win over Leeds.
He then returned to Oakwell permanently in January after his Brum contract expired, and he scored on his second “debut”, an 89th minute winner at Preston. Unfortunately those were the only highlights of the striker’s spell at the club, as niggling injuries and lack of form saw him barely make an impact in games. He made 19 appearances overall with his last game, a substitute appearance in the 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace two weekends ago. His last start however was way back at the start of March in the 0-0 draw at Derby.
