Barnsley’s top scorer Chris O’Grady has not ruled out staying at Barnsley for their foray into League One following the collapse of his move to Championship outfit Charlton Athletic.
The 28 year old who netted 15 times in The Reds futile attempts to avoid relegation was widely expected to leave this summer, and the Oakwell outfit accepted a bid from Charlton, who spent most of last season battling with them to avoid the drop from the second tier.
However the former Sheffield Wednesday hitman failed to agree terms with the London side and today told the Star:
"Charlton are the only team to have come in with a concrete offer for me, but I weighed up my options, discussed things with my wife and we decided it wasn’t the best move for us. We’re settled here. We moved to Sheffield about seven years ago and like living here.
“Any player wants to play the best standard he can and, in an ideal world, that would have been playing for Barnsley in the Championship. But I’ve still got a year left on my contract and I will continue to do my best for the club. I’m looking forward to pre-season training.”
Barnsley meanwhile are continuing to hold talks with former captain Brian Howard about a return to the club and have today been linked with former QPR striker Tom Hitchcock who netted eight goals in 13 games on loan for Rotherham last season.
