Midfielder Oliver Norwood has snubbed the opportunity to sign for Barnsley and has instead signed a three-year deal with Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.
Both The Reds and Terriers had had £400,000 bids accepted by Manchester United for the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international.
Despite Reds boss Keith Hill having tracked Norwood all summer he was philosophical when talking to the club’s official website about missing out on his signature.
“We have done everything that we could as a Club, but Oliver wants to pursue another direction and we wish him all the best.
“Fortunately it has been a quick process and we have not lost too much time. It’s part and parcel of recruitment, some you win, some you lose. We have already moved on to other targets to add to our exciting new signings so far.
“I am still positive and optimistic for future signings and looking forward to our pre-season training and the start of the new campaign.”
