AFC Barnsley have decided to disband after 3 years.
The club was formed after supporters disgruntled with the financial crisis at Barnsley Football Club decided to create their own club in case Barnsley Football Club were to fold.
3 years later though with the future of Barnsley Football Club now looking safe under the stewardship of Chairman Gordon Shepherd and Owner Patrick Cryne and thus AFC Barnsley have withdrawn from the Central Midlands League with immediate effect.
Manager Mark Hancock was understandably upset and disappointed when he released this statement:
"It is extremely disappointing for everybody connected with the Club for it to be disbanded after a successful three years.
"While ever there was the remotest possibility of Barnsley FC folding it made sense to have an alternative team waiting in the wings but that is no longer the case.
"Over the last few weeks we have been allowing players to move onto other sides because we intended to withdraw from the Central Midlands League at the end of the season. We had also stopped recruiting players for the same reason.
"Today we have decided that it made sense to withdraw from the league with immediate effect. This allows other teams in our league to recognise that the promotion place we had looked like achieving is still up for grabs. I would like to thank all our players and fans for their support over the last three years.
BarnsleyBoy says: I would personally like to thank AFC Barnsley for providing a back up club for The Reds and wish all the players the best of luck in their future careers
