BARNSLEY Football Club have been forced to cancel this weekend’s pre-season friendly at Partick Thistle.
The game was scheduled to take place at the Firhill Stadium, Glasgow, on Saturday July 26, 2003, however the Club are still awaiting clearance from the Football Association to play matches either in England or abroad and it was not deemed appropriate to wait any longer for a change of heart.
Further documentation has been sent to the football authorities today and the club are working exhaustively to bring this matter to a speedy conclusion.
An FA spokesman today confirmed the Club were being ‘cooperative’ and the Reds would be in position to resume playing matches shortly. He said: "Due to issues of confidentiality we cannot go into exact details but we hope that with the continued cooperation this matter will be resolved and Barnsley will be in a position to resume playing pre-season football."
Ian Christon, Football League spokesman, said: "We are trying to sort out the long-term future of the club and it is not a decision you take lightly. We have no major problems. We are just working through the information and clarifying things."
