Barnsley’s loanee striker Marcus Pedersen netted his first international goal last night in Norway’s 2-1 defeat in Denmark.
The 23 year old who has two goals in nine appearances for The Reds, was earning his fifth cap for Norway and he scored in the 78th minute cancelling out a 14th minute effort from William Kvist. Unfortunately the Norwegians still slumped to their fourth defeat in five matches as Nicolai Boilesen netted a 90th minute winner for the Danes.
It has been a good week for Barnsley players past and present on the international scene.
On Wednesday Paul Digby netted his first goal for the England Under 19’s in a 4-1 victory over Hungary, and 24 hours later current Reds keeper Jack Butland and former full back John Stones played the full 90 minutes in the Under 21’s 3-0 win against Finland.
Last night ex Reds loanee Jay Rodriguez, now at Southampton, made his England debut in the 2-0 defeat to Chile, and current Barnsley defender Scott Wiseman will play in Gibraltar’s first ever UEFA recognised match, against Slovakia on Tuesday.
