Tomasz Cywka is the latest Barnsley player set to head through the Oakwell exit door after rejecting the club’s offer of a new contract.
The 25-year-old Pole became a major impact player for The Reds last season with each of his four goals coming from the bench and boss Danny Wilson was keen to tie down a player who could unlock League One defences.
However it is being reported this evening that both parties have failed to agree terms on a new deal and Cywka who has scored eight times in 52 appearances for Barnsley overall is set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Cywka is the second Reds midfielder to turn down a new contract following Stephen Dawson last month.
Meanwhile Wilson has stressed the need to sign a “goal scorer” this summer as he plots an immediate return to the Championship.
Chris O’Grady was top scorer in 2013-2014 with 15 goals but he seems likely to stay in the Championship next season and Wilson told the Star:
“Our priority this summer is getting the best quality of attacking players into the club as we can, we want the type of player that will put you on the edge of your seat. A player that is a threat and who is going to be scoring goals.”
That player however is not likely to be Lee Gregory. The 25 year old was the talk of the Conference this season as he netted an incredible 31 goals in 34 games for Halifax to lead them into the play-offs.
He is being chased by a host of Championship and League One clubs this summer and it is believed Barnsley had tabled an offer for him but the player himself has turned down the move.
Sources close to Halifax also claim that Gregory has rejected moves to Birmingham and Millwall and will only decide his future after returning from a holiday.
