Portsmouth Require Hart Transplant After Adams Sacking

Former Barnsley boss Paul Hart has been drafted in at Premier League strugglers Portsmouth after Tony Adams was sacked on Monday after a run of one win in ten games left last season's FA Cup winners on the brink of the relegation zone.

Hart, who was director of youth development at the club has stepped in as caretaker manager. The 58 year old was Barnsley manager for exactly a year, between the 4th March 2004 to the 4th March 2005 and was sacked in Gordon Shepherd's first day as Chairman after failing to mount a promotion challenge in 2004-2005 despite overhauling nearly the entire squad. He won just 14 of his 51 games in charge at Oakwell, and the decision to sack him was fully vindicated when Andy Ritchie led the same squad to promotion the following season. Hart had left them in 14th position.
