Barnsley will start a new season with a new head coach for the second successive season after Poya Asbaghi left today by mutual consent following Barnsley’s relegation on Friday night.
The Swede only arrived in November following the sacking of Markus Schopp who had won only one of the opening 15 league matches and was axed following a run of seven successive defeats left the Reds second from bottom of the table and only kept off the foot by Derby’s 21 point deduction.
However Asbaghi failed to halt the slide, winning only four of his 26 matches whilst also setting a club record for longest wait for a first win as manager of 12 matches.
With relegation confirmed following a 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield on Friday night the club and Asbaghi have agreed to part company today with Martin Devaney in caretaker charge for the remaining three matches.
