Barnsley and recently relegated Wolves played out a draw at Oakwell this afternoon as they continued their preparations for the 2013-2014 campaign.
Zeli Ismali- who spent most of last season on loan at the MK Dons from Molineux- put the visitors into an early third minute lead when he got on the end of a Jake Cassidy cross but The Reds were level less than two minutes when Jacob Mellis, who netted the winner against Wolves at Oakwell back in February, was played in nicely by Chris O’Grady and the former Chelsea and Sheffield United youngster tucked home from 12 yards out.
Wolves regained the advantage on 20 minutes when 22 year old Danny Batth, who has recently enjoyed loan spells at both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, got the faintest touch onto Sam Ricketts free-kick to guide it past Luke Steele.
On 55 minutes, Reds boss David Flitcroft made a raft of substitutions bringing on Lewin Nyatanga, Kelvin Etuhu and Jim O’Brien and the Irish winger helped set up The Reds second equaliser two minutes later, linking up with Mellis before feeding O’Grady, who had his back to goal but turned superbly to smash an effort home.
Reds: Steele, Wiseman (Cywka 72), Cranie, McNulty (Nyatanga 55), Kennedy (Etuhu 55), Golbourne, Dawson (O’Brien 55), Perkins (Digby 63), Mellis (Jennings 62), Dagnall (Lopez 75), O’Grady (Scotland 75).
Subs not used: Dibble.
The only concerns for The Reds were that both Tom Kennedy and Scott Wiseman picked up knocks during the game which Flitcroft said will be monitored over the next few days.
