League One promotion hopefuls Preston North End hope to tie up a free transfer move for Barnsley defender Scott Wiseman within the next 24 hours.
The 28 year old has been a regular in the Barnsley side this season, making 25 appearances in all competitions but has come under fierce criticism from the club’s fans and is set to become the first casualty of Danny Wilson’s rebuilding of his ailing squad.
Wiseman, who was signed from Rochdale by Keith Hill in 2011, was omitted from the Reds FA Cup squad against Coventry last weekend- the first time he has not been included in a Barnsley matchday squad this season.
Preston boss Simon Grayson is looking to strengthen his defence as he chases a return to English football’s second tier for the first time in three years and Wiseman will join with the Reds not demanding a fee to get his wages off the bill.
