The Daily Mirror has reported that the Reds are doing battle with Sheffield United to sign Blackpool striker Marlon Harewood on loan.
The newspaper claims the Reds are favourites to clinch the signing of the former West Ham and Aston Villa striker over the doomed Blades having fallen out of favour at Bloomfield Road.
The arrivals of James Beattie and Jason Puncheon have shoved Harewood down the pecking order and it appears he will be sent out on loan for first team football.
A striker hasn't found the net for the Reds since February 1st, when Danny Haynes and Garry O'Connor netted in the 2-0 home win over Preston North End.
In other news, it seems that Reds midfielder Nathan Doyle will miss Saturday's home game with high-flying Norwich City with a calf strain picked up in Tuesday's 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
Also, Reds press officer Rob Knowles has been sacked following the comments made about the referee in the 2-0 defeat to Hull City in his match report.
Knowles questioned the integrity of Teesside official Peter Quinn after several poor decisions against the Reds, including the decision to send off Stephen Foster, the sad thing was, he had a point!
