Reds Could Be Saying Ono over Sodje move

Barnsley could be set to go to battle with York City over the capture of 20 year old striker Onome Sodje.

Sodje signed for The Reds on a free transfer yesterday after he had been playing for York on non contract terms for the last two years and had notched 24 goals in 94 appearances. This led to the Minstermen offering him a proper contract this summer, but he opted to move to Oakwell.

York now claim that because they have developed Sodje for the past two years they should be entitled to some compensation, possibly through a tribunal.

Director Sophie McGill told the Yorkshire Post:

"We have assisted Onome on a personal basis to further his development as a footballer in the UK since his arrival at York City two years ago, "

"We offered him a contract for the forthcoming season and we are disappointed that he has not communicated with the manager or the chairman, not returned any calls, or even had the courtesy to inform York City that he intended to join another club,"

Reds general manager Don Rowing though insists the club have done nothing wrong.
