Reds manager Keith Hill has been denied doing his first pieces of business of pre-season after seeing bids for two players turned down, as revealed by the Barnsley Chronicle.
Offers for Brighton & Hove Albion captain Gordon Greer and Manchester United starlet Oliver Norwood have been rejected by the clubs with no word on whether Hill will make improved offers.
31-year-old Scot Greer, formerly of the Reds' South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers, made 42 appearances for Albion last season and won plaudits for his no-nonsense style of play. He also netted against Barnsley in Brighton's 2-0 win at the AMEX Stadium in November 2011.
He has also had extended spells with Kilmarnock and Swindon Town.
Norwood, who has already been linked with the Reds since the season ended, spent time on loan with Coventry City in the Championship last season and was the bright spark of a poor season for the Sky Blues.
It is believed that Man United want a fee of around £500,000 for the 21-year-old Northern Ireland international.
