Barnsley are set to secure the signing of QPR’s highly rated left back Cole Kpekawa after the two clubs agreed a fee of around £450,000 for the giant 6”3 20 year old.
It has been no secret that Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom has been looking to strengthen that position since allowing George Williams to depart Oakwell this summer which left him with just Aidy White as a recognised senior player for that slot.
Kpekawa can also play centre back but prefers the left and it is a surprise to many in West London that R’s boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is willing to let him leave.
The England Under 20 international who has won four caps joined the Loftus Road side’s academy in 2005, signing his first professional deal in 2014 at the age of 18. In August 2015 Kpekawa made his debut for QPR in a 3-0 win over Yeovil in the League Cup and has made a further eight appearances with one of those coming this season, in a 2-2 EFL Cup draw with Swindon.
Kpekawa who has also had loan spells at Colchester, Portsmouth and Leyton Orient is due in South Yorkshire for a medical tomorrow and should sign well before tomorrow’s night transfer deadline.
