A bizarre FA ruling means Barnsley will be robbed of the services of striker Garry O’Connor until the home game with Coventry City on the 3rd January, meaning the 27 year old Scotsman will miss the New Year’s Day trip to Nottingham Forest.
This is due to FA rules stating that a player must be registered by 12noon the day before a game to be available for the match. But with the transfer window closed until midnight on the 31st December, The Reds are unable to register O’Connor until then, meaning he misses the match at the City Ground.
Barnsley are desperate to get O’Connor back into the side as they have lost both matches he has missed since his loan from Birmingham expired. He played five games during his second loan stint at Oakwell, and the Reds won four and drew one of them, with O’Connor scoring a crucial last minute winner at Preston which instigated the unbeaten run.
